Sustainability
Festivals require a lot of resources and often have a poor ecological footprint. At the same time, they are a testing ground for new solutions in the cultural sector, for a more sustainable future.
On the one hand, art and culture offer the opportunity to find other forms of communication through aesthetic expression, to communicate problem areas in a new way and to develop innovative solutions. On the other hand, our aim is to act in a very practical way that conserves resources and is fair.
As a first step, we have localised problem areas and introduced initial solutions, which we are gradually expanding to include mobility, nutrition and advertising materials as well as inclusion and the strengthening of social relationships.
Covering an area of 12,000 square kilometres with a poorly developed public transport infrastructure is a challenge. Since last year, we have been integrating principles of environmentally friendly mobility, for example through the use of electric cars and car pools. We have had good experiences with the offer of bus shuttles, which visitors can use to travel to events for a small fee.
In order to do justice to sustainable nutrition, we only book local caterers at the event location, pay attention to fair production, the use of reusable crockery and – if we have the choice – we opt for organic food.
When it comes to promotional materials, we ensure that they are reused and that high-quality, environmentally friendly materials are used. This is done both during procurement and during the production process of the Lausitz Festival. Our banners, flags and roll-ups have seen many festivals. We also avoid overprinting and increasingly rely on digital formats.
In addition to the obvious aspect of sustainable resource management, we also assume social responsibility. Through participation and fair co-operation at all levels, we create a stable and liveable society for everyone.
The Lausitz Festival is committed to inclusion and sees this as an ongoing process. We are constantly working to improve accessibility and plan to expand the concept in line with the multi-sensory principle to include more types of disability.
After each festival, we evaluate the measures together, adapt them if necessary and design further options.
Our common goal as the Lausitz Festival team is to decisively advance the topic of ecological and social sustainability.
