The Old Town House, today one of the venues of the Cottbus State Theater, looks back on an eventful history. As a rest and recreation farm, it held brewing, distilling and innkeeping rights around 1580. At the beginning of the 19th century plays were performed here for the first time; at that time the town house was a hotel called »Golden Ring«. When a theater hall was added in 1854, it functioned as a town theater until 1908. After the final curtain fell, the building served at times as a police station, at times as an administrative building and even as the town council building until it was restored in early 2020 and rediscovered as a cultural venue – a place steeped in history for the philosophical symposium.
