The former »House of the Construction Workers« was extensively renovated from 1997 to 1999 and converted into a new home for the Staatstheater Cottbus’s Chamber Theatre. The inaugural production was Goethe’s tragedy, »Clavigo«. »Clavigo« was the first work Goethe published under his own name (in 1774), “Götz von Berlichingen” having appeared anonymously in 1773. The Chamber Theatre is a multi-disciplinary space for plays, music theatre, dance, and lectures. In addition to the historic large theatre on Schillerplatz, the Chamber Theatre is one of the Cottbus Theatre’s most important performance venues.
