The monastery church of St. Anna, built from 1493 to 1512, first served as the chapel of the Franciscan monastery in Klamenz. After the Reformation and the dissolution of the monastery, the church was used for centuries by Sorbian Protestants for their religious services. The monastery buildings housed the Latin school where Gotthold Ephraim Lessing spent his first school years. Since August 2011, the church has been used for religious services, concerts, and other events as well as for the display of sacred medieval and Renaissance artworks from churches in Kamenz, most notably a unique ensemble of five late Gothic winged altars. The church of St. Anna is an art-historical treasure and a highlight for tourists exploring the ancient Via Sacra.
