About the location
In 2020, Spremberg celebrated the Spreekino’s first 20 years in its new home and also paid tribute to a 110-year-old cinematic tradition. The Deutsches Theater Spremberg played an unforgettable role in the city’s cultural life. Paul Klobelt purchased property in the Heinrichstraße in 1897 and built Paul Klobelts Concerthaus. In 1904, he added a ballroom that was transformed into a cinema in the 1930s. Known as the Deutsches Theater, it was an important part of the city’s life for many years. The building was condemned and torn down in 2011 after efforts to preserve and restore it proved futile. A supermarket parking lot now stands in its place.
