As part of the Lusatia Festival, the Europa Chor Akademie under the direction of Jan Hoffmann will be "building bridges" within the City of Europe:
On 12 September at 11:30 a.m. famous melodies from film history will be heard, including Henry Mancini's "Moon River". The singers will look from the terrace of the newly renovated Postplatz in Zgorzelec to St Peter's Church.
Then the choir switches to the German side: to the back of the historic Waidhaus, at the foot of St Peter's Church. Now looking east, Old Town Bridge. Here they present the 2nd part of the concert: romantic choral music by Rheinberger and Schumann, among others.

Professor Joshard Daus
Joshard Daus is one of the best-known German choral conductors and has led choirs and orchestras of world renown. With his great experience and competence, he stands for excellent training of his choral singers. The EUROPA CHOR AKADEMIE is his heart's project, which he sees secured for the future with the move to the new location in Görlitz.
Daus studied school music in his hometown of Hamburg with Professor Hermann Rauhe and bandmaster with Professor Brückner-Rüggeberg. He worked as municipal music director in Hamm and Lippstadt from 1976 to 1997. His artistic successes there earned him a call to the University of Mainz in 1985 - as professor of choral and orchestral conducting and director of the Collegium musicum.
Just one year later, a close collaboration began with the conductor Sergiu Celibidache, to whom Daus owes essential impulses for his further work. Under Celibidache, Daus was choir director of the Munich Philharmonic from 1990 to 1993 and later conducted the venerable Sing-Akademie zu Berlin for several years.
To this day, Daus is the tireless idea generator, networker, organiser and motor of the EUROPA CHOR AKDEMIE. He rehearses its performances - and conducts many concerts himself.
Europa Chor Görlitz
The EUROPA CHOR AKADEMIE was founded in 2017 by Professor Joshard Daus in Görlitz. Here, choral traditions from all over Europe come together - from this and from intensive joint study, a unique body of sound is created that gives musical shape to the idea of Europe. The top artistic work is in the service of practical further education for young European musicians and links teaching and practice true to the motto "learning by doing" at a level of excellence.
In Görlitz, which for centuries has connected East and West via the Via Regia, the singers study in the Karpfengrund. The choir rehearsals take place in the European Encounter Centre - Stalag VIIIA in Zgorzelec, Poland, the place where the French composer Olivier Messiaen was imprisoned as a prisoner of war. The active members of the Choir Academy currently come from the Baltic States, Poland, Spain and Germany.
Located in the east of the Free State of Saxony and the Federal Republic of Germany and at the same time in the centre of Europe, Görlitz is the ideal location for the European-oriented work.
