Created for the Telux industrial complex in Weißwasser, Filip Markiewicz’s theatre installation uses Shakespeare’s famous play to explore the region’s historical context. In our age of transitory Social Media stimulation, Hamlet’s contemplation of a ‘play within a play’ questions the nature of our own culture: where is the line between politics and spectacle? Inspired by Eugène Delacroix’s series of thirteen Hamlet lithographs, ‘Euro Hamlet’ is a continually changing hybrid work that, like the texture of a fresh oil painting, will take some time to stabilize in our minds.
