Franz Schubert composed the Romantic song cycle “Winterreise” in 1827, one year before his death. Schubert’s settings of 24 poems by Wilhelm Müller tell of the existential loneliness of the wanderer: “I came here as a stranger, as a stranger I depart.” Internationally celebrated baritone Andrè Schuen, however, feels that “The ‘Winterreise’ is more than the depiction of a series of psychological states. It has a real sense of dramatic development; at least I try to imagine that as I sing.” Sensitively accompanied by Daniel Heide, Schuen will invite listeners to be his companions on a profound musical journey.
