How do women in Cameroon view their own country? In sub-Saharan Africa, women possess only one per cent of the wealth, but are responsible for two thirds of all agricultural production. The World Bank sees the women of Africa as the key to economic growth on the continent – not because they are better human beings, but because their potential has until now remained untapped. Her Majesty Esperance Cadé, mother of the King in Bafoussam, and Aimée Nguemtchueng, of the University of Yaoundé I, chose the images for this exhibition celebrating the women of Cameroon and their lives between tradition and modernity.
