About the production
Start

End
4:20 p.m.
A podium discussion on cultural appropriation and the difficulties in distinguishing between transcultural exchange and the exploitation of exoticism. The artistic legacy of Paul Gauguin will be examined. Was he simply the proponent of a naïve primitivism with colonial overtones, or a courageous representative of a radically new aesthetic language expanding the horizons of European Modernism? Why do we find ostracized outsiders – the accursed “Les Maudits” – so fascinating? Is it their nearness to hell and their willingness to break with established conventions?
