About the location
In the 10 years of its existence, the Kühlhaus has established itself as a socio-cultural place in the region. With the Kühlhaus, the operators want to develop a cultural and artistic exchange and meeting space that offers freedom and long-term opportunities to become active themselves – they want to attract young creative people to the region and motivate them to stay.
In 2006, an initiative of young people discovered Kühlhaus Görlitz for themselves. After persistent attempts to contact the owner, a first meeting with Hans van Leeuwen from Frigolanda Dresdner Kühlhaus GmbH took place in 2008. He decided to support the project and from then on took over important construction costs, gave advice on permits, financed machine rentals and building materials. Enormous efforts of numerous volunteers around the specially founded association enable a solid starting point for. Establishment of a socio-cultural meeting place.
The team around the association is growing and binding more and more people to the Kühlhaus. Since 2013, many (socio-)cultural events such as concerts, workshops, film screenings and seminars have been held. The Kühlhaus provides self-employed people and freelancers in the cultural and creative industries with a basic basis for their work.
