The Lausitz Festival contributes to this year's programme of the International Messiaen Days Görlitz-Zgorzelec (25–27 April 2025) with an evening entitled »Poetische Federlese«. Based on the composer Olivier Messiaen's pronounced love of birds and their polyphonic song between heaven and earth, »Poetische Federlese« relates Messiaen's piano piece »Catalogue d'oiseaux« to poetry about birds, freedom and captivity from several centuries.
Actress Martina Gedeck will recite the poems and French pianist Lorenzo Soulès will play excerpts from the »Catalogue d'oiseaux«. The realisation of this Lausitz Festival production lies in the hands of Yaron David Müller-Zach.
Thus, the event also celebrates the tenth anniversary of the European Centre for Remembrance, Education and Culture »Meetingpoint Memory Messiaen«.
The evening will take place on Saturday 26 April 2025 at the Rabryka socio-cultural youth centre in Görlitz. It starts at 7 pm.
Hope is the thing with feathers (254)
Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without the words,
And never stops at all,
And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.
I've heard it in the chillest land,
And on the strangest sea;
Yet, never, in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me.
Emily Dickinson (1830–1886)
