About the production

After three weeks of intensive creative work, it appears on the big screen – the brand new collection of films of various genres from the workshop of young filmmakers. All the films created during the Summer Academy will be shown on this evening, in the presence of the makers and their mentors, on the cinema screen in the Kühlhaus in Görlitz.

For the fourth year, the Lusatia Festival is cooperating with the Summer.Film.Academy (SFA), which invites young filmmakers from Lusatia and around the world to Görlitz. In the Neisse Euroregion and the Sorbian Triangle, the participating film enthusiasts can develop their film ideas within the framework of the academy and also realise them directly.

The main theme of this year's Summer.Film.Academy is »Origin, Home, Identity«. Common points of intersection with the programme of the Lausitz Festival 2025 and its projects lie in the exploration of the »we« in society and the public sphere. The aim is to explore the prerequisites, possibilities and limits of community, to question the search for identity and cultural traditions of people of different regional origins and to give space to utopian visions of the future. In between lies the material from which films are made.

»What unites us is our shared passion for film – our universal language. For a short time, the cold store becomes our common home, a place of creative exchange and reflection. Despite or even because of all our differences, we recognise ourselves in each other's stories – because: Your eyes see what my eyes see« – this is how the SFA organisers put it.
