Arvo Pärt celebrates his 90th birthday on 11 September 2025. The Lausitz Festival congratulates the Estonian composer, whose works are performed and loved all over the world, with a special concert: in the parish church of St Peter and Paul in Görlitz, the easternmost city in Germany, the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir and Concerto Copenhagen will perform five of his pieces under the direction of Tõnu Kaljuste. The performers from Estonia have been familiar with Pärt's oeuvre, which is characterised by simplicity and depth in equal measure, for decades. They have premiered many of these works and have travelled the world with them. Concerto Copenhagen is a recognised early music ensemble that brings Pärt's timelessly beautiful music to life in many different facets.
The programme is in the Russian Orthodox and Catholic tradition – contemplative music of touching power, yet turned towards the world.
The concert will be streamed live across Europe by ARTE Concert.
